Donald A. O’Neill, MD, FAAOS
Dr. O’Neill is a native of New York. He graduated from Columbia College in New York City in 1969. He then earned his medical doctor degree at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York in 1973.
He was an intern at Hartford Hospital and then served on active duty in the US Public Health Service as a commissioned officer. Dr. O’Neill then did his orthopaedic residency at the University of North Carolina, with a Children’s Orthopaedic Residency at the Alfred I. duPont Institute. Following completion of his residency, he was a fellow in adult reconstructive surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital with a special emphasis in total joint replacement surgery.
Following completion of his training, Dr. O’Neill taught on the faculty at the University of North Carolina and the State University of New York at Stony Brook Medical Schools. He began his practice with Atlantic Orthopaedic Specialists in 1987, treating patients in Norfolk and Virginia Beach for 20 years. Dr. O’Neill is now retired and continues to serve as the group’s Medical Director.
